About Grade GS-14
GS-14 is the second highest General Schedule pay rate. This pay grade is given to Supervisor level employees who typically have a branch or division below them. There are also high-level technical, scientific, and engineering positions that receive top GS grades including GS-14 without requiring supervisory duties. However, these technical positions are less common.
Many GS Career Paths top-out at GS-13. That means that while there are many GS-13 employees, there is a sharp drop-off in the number of GS-14 positions.
Step Increases within GS-14As employees gain more experience, they can receive in-grade step promotions. While step promotions generally do not correspond with an increase in authority or responsibility, they do provide a pay raise. Within the GS-14 paygrade, a single step increase will raise yearly base pay by a total of $3,487.00.
When you receive a paygrade promotion, you will maintain your previously attained step. For example, a GS-14 Step 3 employee who receives a paygrade promotion to GS-15 will now be paid at GS-15 Step 3. Read more about how step increases work.
